Jakarta, Indonesia – 31 July 2026 – More than 10 million heart failure patients may soon benefit from a new order of heart failure management with the arrival of the world’s smallest and lightest artificial heart assist device in Indonesia. Training of RSCM’s surgeons, physicians and allied health professionals at the world’s largest heart hospital, Fuwai Hospital, in Beijing, began earlier this month.

“This is an unprecedented convergence of advanced MedTech development, cross-border medical knowledge sharing cloud and AI enablement to allow a new process from precision patient selection to implantation of a very small and light medical device, which can even be implanted using a minimally invasive surgical option, followed by professional post-implant care by LVAD coordinators specially trained via global protocols. With the advent of mycardial iPSC stem cell treatment post-implant, the artificial heart assist device can later be removed upon regeneration of the heart muscles. One can potentially optimise heart longevity instead of being fed with medications until the end of life in most cases of end stage heart failure,” said Dr Wei Siang Yu, Founder & Chairman of Borderless Healthcare Group (BHG) and founder of HeartSpan.ai, the heart longevity division of BHG.

By bringing together global and local experts, the initiative aims to expand access to life-saving treatment while advancing precision heart failure management and heart longevity.

The introduction of advanced LVAD implantation ecosystem development is also expected to improve advanced surgical and care support capability in Indonesia which can reinforce the government’s effort to reduce reliance on overseas treatment where approximately 2 million Indonesians previously travelled abroad for medical treatment and spent an estimated US$9 billion annually.
